In a little under an hour at 4 pm, its Game 2 of the series vs GT up in Atlanta.
We have Evan McHenry on the hill today. Gotta even this series after having the bats shut down last night by GT 6-1.
We get Michael back today behind the plate. We gotta have this one today and even this series. Cannot afford to lose a series to a team you should beat. Gotta get back to .500 today and hopefully a chance to win the series tomorrow.
The game will be seen on ACC Extra or you can listen to Josh White on WVUM starting at 4 pm.

Bad news from CANES camp this morning 3/31/18
Not good in an area that is pretty thin at the moment and that's in the secondary. According to Christy Chirinos of the Sun-Sentinel in a Tweet this morning, Gurvan Hall will be out the rest of the Spring with a Knee Injury per Coach Mark Richt this morning.
That's a tough blow when you consider we're pretty thin there in the secondary. Per Richt, Hall will NOT need surgery, which is good news on that front and hopefully we'll have him back in time for Fall camp.
With Hall out, other guys in the secondary are going to have to step up their games namely, Ivey, Frierson, Bandy, etc.

6-1 GT over CANES 3/30/18
Not a good way to start a weekend series on the road. CANES lose 6-1 to GT at Russ Chandler Stadium.
Their pitcher Curry was on target tonight going 8 innings and striking out 12, back to back, we K in the double digits, and of his 12 Ks, 3 were called Strike 3's and only once did he go to a 3 ball count and that was when he allowed his only walk in the 3rd.
We did get to Curry for the only time in the 2nd with a RBI by Michael Perez, but Ray strikes out with 2 on to end the inning. Jed for the most part didn't do that badly. He settled down after the 2 run HR by GT, allowing runs in the 2nd, 3rd, and 5th. The way Curry was pitching for them tonight, he shut down our bats. We left 7 on base tonight, but for the most part, he was in total command out there on the hill.
The bullpen allowed just five hits the rest of the way and no runs. Gotta bounce back and even things up tomorrow at 4 pm in Game 2 of this series and get back to .500 on the season.

Interesting take on QB situation after the 1st week and other key observations and my takes on them
An interesting take coming from Barry Jackson after the 1st week of Spring Camp.
I agree with Jackson that Jarren Williams won't be a factor this Spring, but interestingly, Richt believes he might in the fall. Something to watch there. As for Kosi, the deep ball isn't as good as Malik's is, but that arm is really second to none here. The scary part is that he's getting better with each passing day. Jackson says that Kosi does turn his back on plays (i.e., going into our own backfield), but that's easily correctable.
On Malik, according to Jackson's piece, he's had a solid camp so far, and for him, this is an important camp. On one play, he gets out of trouble, avoids the blitz and ran 40 yards for a TD.
As for Cade, you know I really like this kid, but I'm not totally sure he's out of Richt's doghouse after the off the field incident near the end of last season. The key with Cade, according to Jackson's piece is that he's gotten better and he's bigger and stronger than he was last year. Most importantly, he knows the offense and what Richt wants here.
A couple of other takes I have here on other positions.
At WR, we're solid here. Liking the fact that the early enrollees are making an impact this spring.
As for Playmaker II, he needs to improve at making tough catches and bail out our QBs. He needs to make an impression this spring because once Mallory and Jordan arrive in the fall, his time probably will be limited drastically.
As for the D, after Manny chewing them out yesterday and punishing them after a poor performance, I believe they're getting the message loud and clear. We're seeing that from a few players here.
One of which is Greg Rousseau, another one who's here early for Spring Ball. This guy is the real deal. Manny, CMR, and Simpson are raving about this kid.
Another is Jon Garvin, especially, since we won't have DJax back until Fall camp and he's making the most of his opportunity to make an impact this spring.
In the secondary, JD (Dean) has some work to do here. He's working on the 1st team, which is good for us here. I like the thought of having MJax, Bandy, and JD as the three players there. I'm liking that Gilbert Frierson, and D.J. Ivey as well as Gurvan are having solid Springs so far.
Liking what Big Mike is saying about Mike Smith stepping up in Zach's absence. Hopefully, we'll have Zach back in time for Fall camp.
Overall, like what I'm seeing so far, and hopefully, week 2 will be just as productive as Week 1 was.

Opening the weekend in Atlanta vs GT
First pitch at 6 pm up in Atlanta.
Jeb Bargfeldt is going for The U tonight in the opener. Gotta bounce back from a very tough loss in Ft. Myers on Wednesday Night vs FGCU.
Need to keep the momentum in the ACC going this weekend. Tonight would be a good start. The bullpen should be rested and ready to go.
GT is 14-11 on the season and 3-6 in the ACC. However, at home, they are 11-5 and coming off a 3-1 victory over Ga. Southern on Wednesday Night.
Should be a fun series this weekend. We do get Catcher Michael Amditis back this weekend.
The game will be on WVUM at 6 pm with Josh White doing the Play by Play.

Manny pissed at the D for lackadaisical effort at Practice
A good piece from Ryan Wooden over on the CANES Die Hards page about how upset Manny was on the D was just god awful yesterday.
You could tell this was coming after how the D was just mailing it in the last few practices. After yesterday, Manny had enough and needed to send a message. So, according to Wooden's piece, Manny had them against a chain linked fence in the back of Greentree, and had them do padded wall sits and those if you've done those, are painful and grueling.
Manny told Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald that he needed the players on D to understand, that last year is over and done with. The guys that were there last year (RJ, Jumbo 7, Chad, and Toolbox Trent) are gone and will soon be in the League and that they couldn't rely on last year.
You can read Manny's Quotes to McPherson here.
Some of the players to a man said that yesterday was a horrible day of practice. Hopefully, after yesterday's punishment, they get the message loud and clear, last year's effort and resting on their laurels, will not be good enough. They need to get better and I believe they will do so because this year, there are big things expected out of this Defense and this team. If they want to get to play on New Year's Day this year, its really going to be up to the D to make that happen.

My take on CANES baseball 1-0 loss to FGCU
This 1-0 loss by CANES in Ft. Myers really hurts.
Daniel Federman pitched a hellva ballgame tonight, but in the 8th, it would do him in. Tough L for Danny in this one.
Of Lumbert's 12 K's tonight, 5 of them were called Strike 3s. This is a big pet peeve of mine, looking at called third strikes. If its close, gotta protect the plate. Canes had three chances to cash in and all three times, they did not do so.
In the 6th, 2nd and 3rd, 1 out, Clooman strikes out and Tackett grounds to short, FGCU's Pitcher (Lumbert) gets out of trouble. Gotta tip your hat to him, he silenced the Cane bats here. Cloonan strikes out 3 times in this game.
Twice in the 9th. 1st and 2nd, 0 outs this time and Tack grounds into a 6-4-3 DP, and Burns with a runner on 3rd and 2 outs, flys out to Center to end the game.
Burnsie had a very good at-bat, but couldn't deliver in a key spot.
This one stings for a while, but gotta brush yourself off and get ready for GT up in Atlanta this weekend.

Canes Baseball tonight up in Ft Myers to meet Gulf Coast
The game is on tonight. Need to build some momentum off the three game sweep over UVa last weekend. Yesterday's return to the old OB site was not too pretty, losing 22-2 to the Marlins.
Tonight, they can bounce back with a solid performance by Daniel Federman. Need at 6-7 innings out of Danny tonight vs FGCU. After tonight, Canes will head up to Atlanta for a weekend series vs GT.
The game will be on WVUM at 6:30 pm. Josh White is on the mic doing the Play by Play for that one and all games on WVUM.
It can also be seen on Facebook Live by clicking here: CANES vs Gulf Coast in Ft Myers.

My take on the QB Competition at UM
Here's the way I look at this battle.
I've been a big Malik Rosier supporter for a while now. However, my confidence eroded in him after last year's finish to the season with 3 straight losses.
That said, I still have confidence in Malik that he will ultimately keep his job as the starter, unless he has a very poor Spring camp, then at that point, all bets are off the table.
Something that caught my eye here. Something from Matt Porter of the Palm Beach Post in reference to Rosier and his grade. When Richt declined to give a grade for Malik, that told me something right there. That says to me that Malik is in serious trouble of losing his job.
According to Porter's piece and I'll put it here: Kosi leading candidate to win UM job, he says there are Cane insiders that believe N'Kosi Perry is going to win the job. I don't see it that way right now. As I said earlier, I still think Malik will hang on to his job in the end, but make no mistake, by Richt not saying Malik's grade, definitely confirms what I've been saying for a while now, Malik's leash will be very short. If Malik struggles in Arlington early vs LSU, Richt will not wait too long to pull him in favor of Kosi. I'll want to see in the Spring game how Malik, Kosi and the other two QBs fare. The Spring game to me, is going to be really Malik's final shot to keep his job. If he struggles in that game, then you'd have to make the move to go to Kosi here.
In Richt's interview with WQAM, Richt's comments on 3/26/18 to Joe Rose on UM and QB situation Very enlightening and on Jarren Williams, it's clear to me, he's the future. The 80-90% completion numbers on the deep balls, tells me also that Malik, as much as I want to see him hang on to his job, might not be the answer there in that regard. The question is in that regard, is Kosi the answer here or Jarren?
A lot of moving parts taking place between now and April 14th Spring Game at Hard Rock Stadium. A lot more questions will be answered after that game, especially with the QBs.
